Objectives

The main objective of this project was to allow an opportunity for participants to explore and gain a better understanding and appreciation of their culture, language, heritage, and identity – using the arts as a tool to share and learn from others in a safe, student-led environment. Both organisations identified a common issue arising from the young people participating in their projects struggling to identify with and celebrate their own culture, language, and heritage. This had a direct effect on their own personal identity and their place in their country and the world. Much emphasis was also placed on ensuring that the young people were actively involved in the process of putting the programme and content of the events together within the preparation activities before the exchange, and by actively participating in activities within the exchange and making it a student-led project. At a formative age, this project aimed to support participants to gain better confidence and empowerment in their personal identity and their place in their country and the world through engaging in a varied programme of cultural activities with a partner organisation. The project also sought to enlighten participants of the benefits of culture, language and heritage in personal development and employment.
