The project ‘Get Aware What You Wear’ itself was inspired by few enthusiasts and volunteers who have adopted eco-friendly lifestyle, and as young people, are very concerned about modern tendencies related to climate change, especially following the fast fashion trends going on and increasing on one side, and the young people being unaware of the pollutions they are causing and being unaware of how they are supporting these actions. On the other hand, having experience in Erasmus+ motilities , and being aware that non-forma educational methods and activities, can send the loudest message and can increase the bar of awareness – after implementing this project, we can surely say that it was a great decision developing this project, and we are very proud of how it turned. So, with this idea and organizational support, the project was created. The main aim was to raise awareness among participants of the problem of fast fashion and over-buying clothes, to promote sustainable & responsible living and buying by providing them with knowledge in terms of sustainable fashion and environmental protection, practical skills in remaking, redesigning, repairing and upcycling clothes, to encourage them to make ethical changes and become responsible consumers. Specific objectives: •to create a safe and empowering learning space for the exchange of competences and practices among participants •to provide space to share knowledge on the topic of fast fashion vs slow fashion To achieve these specific objectives, we implemented this Youth exchange in Turkey, which is the top textile industry but also polluter in Europe and the leader in handmade and handcrafts •to explore and learn the entire concept of sustainable fashion •to explore the impact and pollution fast fashion has on the environment and how we are dealing with that -as part of the program participants had various activities such as individual an group brainstorming, discovering the concepts connected with the topic, small group discussions, interactive presentations •to raise awareness about the need for more sustainable consuming habits •to exchange ideas on how to develop sustainable wardrobe and go through the transition of changing shopping habits •to introduce them to environmentally-friendly concepts of second-hand clothing and upcycling -by workshops about life cycle of clothes: resources used, workforce, negative impact on environment, effects on pollution, Seven forms of sustainable fashion with lots of visual representations, simulations, research and group discussions •to gain practical skills on how to upcycle clothes, repair and redesign them through sewing and embroidering – we had 1 full day of practicing different sewing, embroidering, knitting etc. skills that were shared by different participants, where on old fabrics we could practice and create, also participants had a chance to repair their own clothes and to do an actual clothes swap event •to share good practices from partner countries on youth involvement in bringing solutions about fast fashion •to empower young people and boost their active participation through various events and campaigns •to promote the idea of think globally, act locally -by allowing participants to be creative, and create awareness campaigns and workshops, that can be shared online or offline and will inspire other peers to get interested in the topic and learn about it •to promote diversity & multicultural inclusion, creativity, teamwork -through every workshop, especially during intercultural night, during implementing activities outside in the city and interacting with local community •to learn about Erasmus+ programme and its opportunities – we had 2 special sessions dedicated to the topic of Erasmus+ and its opportunities, but also we prepared all the participants even new comers on the topic of Erasmus during our preparation meetings before joining the actual activity •to create a blog and guideline and provide sustainability of the project – the blog was created during the project, and contains all the information of the project •to support the partners and participants in disseminating the results and in transferring the competences to colleagues and young people – we created even stronger bonds with our partners, and continued our cooperation We believe that the participants increased many of their competencies through these non-formal educational activities and workshops, had the opportunity to learn more about each other's realities, cultures, topic, the environmental problems they face in their communities – and we say this based on the feedback provided by the participants during and after youth exchange. The participants gained self-confidence while honing their practical abilities, public speaking, presentations, discussions and other soft skills. The YE provided the participants with a fantastic opportunity to develop their leadership skills and workshop facilitation confidence for the leaders too
