Objectives

A group of organisations working with young people in the field of equality and human rights came together for mutual support and solidarity during the covid-19 pandemic around particular concerns about the level of shifting human rights situation pursued by Governments and campaigners under the cover of the covid-19 crisis, with examples being felt in the UK as much as in Bulgaria and Hungary. Equality and rights issues attract fewer headlines in pandemic times and laws giving wider ranging powers to governments are more easily achieved, which means it's harder to have a voice. This project recognised 2 significant spheres of required solidarity - the first is the sociopolitical world described above which we exist within as organisations delivering youth work to groups of minority young people whilst combating and responding to structural issues - the second is the toll that this takes upon longstanding committed youth workers who are also grassroots equality and human rights activists leading work. The solidarity inbuilt to this project refers to and was designed to support both of these spheres. Our 4 main project objectives were: 1. To foster solidarity, equality and inclusion through mobility of youth workers. 2. To develop a new consensus for pan-European collaboration of youth workers working in equality and human rights, in a a post-pandemic society 3. To learn, share and practice strategies of self-care for youth workers in crisis times. 4. To build a strong international network of youth work practitioners working with marginalised young people using physical activity, physical education, outdoor learning and education through sport methods.
