Objectives

It’s not just to weather this storm, but to forge through it. To stay safe and to thrive in VUCA times and navigate among unpredictable realms. With COVID-19 blanketing the globe, people everywhere are facing fear, uncertainty, and hard decisions. Yes, we’re in the middle of a storm—but we’re as well all in the same boat. Somehow, with challenges everywhere, we must discover how to forge ahead. We have an opportunity and obligation to chart the right course. To readjust our services and programmes so we can reach and protect the vulnerable ones. We are witnessing daily examples of courageous people finding their footing. Now is the right time to look around, find each other, and hold fast. As leaders of Youth NGOs, we have an opportunity and obligation to chart the right course— to lay the groundwork for a better future. To join transnationally forces to support youth and their communities to generate valuable solutions. This map will show you how to properly use design thinking, creativity, and non-formal education as your allies in these tormented times. The involvement of youth workers as the frontline staff is essential to help young people solve community and individual problems through creativity and decision-making techniques. Creativity plays an essential role in helping youth deal with stress, fear, and uncertainty in times of crisis; express and regulate emotions in times of crisis; solve problems for fighting COVID-19; cope with stress and threats; fight with boredom installed during city lockdown. Creativity and resilience can help not only individual young people, as well as organisations can learn creative processes to solve problems and challenges posed by COVID-19 and adapt to the current and upcoming changes. Creativity, innovation, and design thinking were the main pillars of the project EuroMed Creativity LAB. EuroMed EVE Belgium joined forces with 09 other Youth NGOs: Programme countries (Spain, Italy, Greece, Romania, France), and Partner countries (Tunisia, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco) to create a training course for Youth NGOs, interested to learn step-by-step how to facilitate creative problem-solving “incubators” with the young people from their communities to find solutions to a variety of challenges. Moreover, together we have developed an interactive map with step-by-step instructions, structured brainstorming methods, problem-solving, and decision-making techniques to be used by Youth workers in online/offline brainstorming with young people. Specific objectives: SO1: Train 23 youth workers and leaders from participating youth organisations, and enable them to acquire the know-how, skills and tools necessary to facilitate at least 12 “local innovation incubators” using the design thinking youth map, created during a 7-day training course on creativity, design thinking and innovation. SO2: Help other youth organizations adapt their local services and interventions to the new challenges imposed by the pandemic through 1 innovative tool and 10 demo-local workshops. SO3: Promote and exchange other existing tools and methods to improve youth work. The project was aligned with the priorities of the Erasmus + program as it contributed to equipping 23 youth workers with skills (during mobility) and methods of design thinking and innovation used for their professional and organisational development. Currently, the youth workers feel more prepared to lead other groups of young people to propose new solutions to local challenges. Moreover, the youth workers discovered and tested non-formal education methods to facilitate further creative learning experiences for young people.
