This project addresses the need to invest in the development of social capital and youth’s ability to participate actively in society, by supporting youth workers' abilities to analyze information transmitted across media channels. True to the lifelong learning concept, we address trainers’ needs to be more effective and knowledgeable when helping youngsters to understand in what ways information is shaped or manipulated across digital platforms. This project tackles primarily the way information is transmitted to all of us. It's a challenge that not only Europe is facing, and will continue to face, but something all citizens across the world must come to grips with. The project further addresses the need of youth workers from the 5 specific partner countries as well as worldwide to acquire new in-depth knowledge on media literacy and fake news, including understanding of manipulating and disinforming propaganda. The mobility is based on the 3D model, devoting 3 thematic days to 3 different sensitive topics in the media nowadays: Human Rights, Gender and Environment. This way it also meets the need of the youth workers from RESOPA to deepen their knowledge and engagement with youngsters on the topic of misinformation. It provides ground for engaging their target group in Media Literacy workshops and, thus, increasing the level of social inclusion and local development among the indirect beneficiaries. Moreover, MBA! meets the current need of professional growth activities that is observed among the youth workers in Sustinea. It allows and encourages them to submerge in the topic of Media Literacy, and gives them the experience to lead their own Young Journalists Camp, planned for Summer 2021. By gathering diverse profiles of youth workers, the project meets the need of expanding the professional networks of the participants from SIKESO and at the same time broadening the specter of topics to work with youngsters on and addressing the objective to provide opportunities to their youth worker's pool. MBA! facilitates the need of PACE to provide quality youth work, both direct and via webinars, on the topic of Communication and Critical Thinking to its main target group - youth. And finally, it meets the ongoing need to build capacity within the volunteers and the target group of IOA on critical topics in today's society such as media, fake news and communication. MBA! improves the quality of work of IOA's trainer team and also helps with the infographics creation the youth workers wish to further engage with on media myths. A more specific set of goals are outlined as follows: 1. To train 20 youth workers from 5 countries on the topic of media literacy, with a focus on fake news and disinformation. Building capacity on the topic of media will broaden the participants’ competences and enhance their professional skills. The acquired knowledge and provided tools will help improve the quality of their work and make them more competitive and flexible in their future occupations. 2. To create a long-lasting output, related to media (a journalistic blog, a podcast, etc.), to multiply the effects of the training by reaching out to young people in the local communities of the participants and worldwide. 3. To raise awareness on fake news and disinformation, and bring it in the focus of skilled youth workers as an opportunity to gain knowledge on a highly important topic, or further develop their professional competencies. Building capacity on the topics of Media Literacy and Combating Fake News will broaden the participants’ competences and enhance their professional skills. The acquired knowledge and provided tools will help improve the quality of their work and make them more competitive and flexible in their future occupations. This objective is also aligned with the EU Youth Strategy, namely Goal 5 - Mental Health & Well-being, Goal 8 - Quality Learning, and Goal 11 - Youth Organizations & European Programmes. This project supports Erasmus+ Programme General objective on improving the quality and efficiency of education, training and youth work in line with the Europe 2020 Strategy, the objectives of the strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training, as well as the Engaging, Connecting and Empowering young people: a new EU Youth Strategy with regards the notion of young people and their commitment to address global challenges. The project supports youth empowerment at the grassroots level and promotes cooperation between youth NGOs to better connect with policymakers and practitioners at a regional and local level and encourage grassroots green initiatives by youth. As youth engagement in the field of media and content creation is gaining traction and the increased risk of global misinformation is likely to continue, we see a need for promoting Media Literacy, build capacity and encourage tools and knowledge sharing between the participants of the project.
