The "World Economic Forum" had stated that critical thinking is one of the top 3 skills required in the 4th Industrial Revolution to adapt to changes (https://goo.gl/EseUxr). It is ranked as the 2nd top skill in the "Future of Jobs" report. Critical thinking has been seen as crucial to adapt to a rapidly changing world due to technological breakthrough, globalization, digitalization. It is highly necessary to evaluate various forms of information, especially online. Critical thinking is described as the ability to think clearly and rationally, understanding the logical connection between ideas for which one needed to be capable of focusing. Research indicated that teenagers are not able to focus, their focus lasts no more than 8 seconds (https://cisn.co/2oJbRZO). The attention span of young people is no more than 5-10 minutes whereas the expected attention span of a 16-year-old is 32-48 minutes. The main reason behind the inability to concentrate is the world of distractions we live in. We practice distraction all day by spending time and energy aimlessly on smartphones, TV, the internet, social media, games, etc. Research showed that when distracted and doing several tasks at the same time, our IQ drops by 5-15 points and performance can decrease up to 50% (http://bit.ly/2TAOsGO). The idea of the project was conceived during YE organized by 4L- Advocates of change during the session where the participants brainstormed their future project ideas. We continued developing the idea and formed cooperation of 4 countries: CZ, SK, HU, RO. The belief was that we could change this situation by increasing the ability to concentrate, evaluate information, and discover new ways of learning through increased critical thinking. This could lead to better performance in school and overall life, the ability to finish tasks started, discovery of self and hobbies, dedicating enough time to learn them. The goal was to increase the focus of 55 participants from 4 countries by using critical thinking methods and discovering new ways of learning. The objectives achieved: O1. We discovered practical exercises and tools to increase the ability to concentrate for the 55 participants. Additionally, we created a safe non-formal environment for them to practice these exercises. O2. We improved the focus and critical thinking skills of the 55 young participants from 4 countries. O3. We practiced how to effectively deal with distractions and shift our focus towards preferred areas in life, such as learning new skills and critically evaluating information. The project had a youth exchange that took place in Pocuvadlianske Jazero, Slovakia from 25.02.2023 - 06.03.2023 and gathered 55 participants from 4 countries (CZ, SK, HU, RO) and 8 group leaders. The project aligned with: - the priority of mobility projects for youth in 2020 to increase critical thinking and the Inclusion and Diversity strategy. - ET 2020 to make lifelong learning and mobility a reality by increasing participants' ability to focus and critical thinking. The project also aimed at promoting equity, social cohesion and active citizenship by creating equal opportunities for all and enhancing creativity and innovation, including entrepreneurship, at all levels of education and training. The project also aligned with specific objectives pursued by the Erasmus+ Programme in the field of youth, which include improving the level of key competences and skills of young people, promoting participation in the labor market and social inclusion. The project contributed to the Europe 2020 initiative for "Education, training and lifelong learning" by increasing youth ability to focus and learn any skill they want.
