The primary aim of implementing the "citizenSHIP" project was to address the growing disconnect and scepticism among young Europeans towards the EU and its democratic processes. Amidst a backdrop of visible Euroscepticism and a general loss of confidence in democracy, we sought to rejuvenate interest and trust in European citizenship by making it a tangible and relatable concept for the youth. Our objectives were multifaceted: 1. **Enhance Understanding of European Citizenship:** To demystify the concept of European citizenship, making it accessible and comprehensible. We aimed to educate participants about the significance of the Maastricht Treaty and what being a European citizen entails, including the rights and responsibilities it encompasses. 2. **Combat Apathy towards EU Politics:** By directly engaging with young individuals' perceptions of politics as distant and irrelevant, the project intended to foster a more engaged and informed youth populace. We aimed to bridge the gap between young people’s perception of the EU and its actual impacts on their daily lives. 3. **Promote Intercultural Dialogue and Cooperation:** Through bringing together participants from Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, and Spain, we aimed to foster a sense of European unity and solidarity. The project was designed to be a platform for intercultural learning and exchange, enhancing participants' understanding and appreciation of Europe's diverse cultures. 4. **Encourage Active European Citizenship:** The project aimed to inspire participants to become active European citizens who contribute positively to their communities and the broader European society. By understanding their role within the EU, we hoped to empower young people to participate more fully in democratic processes and civic life. 5. **Innovate with Non-formal Learning Approaches:** Recognizing the limitations of traditional educational methods in engaging the youth, "citizenSHIP" was committed to employing non-formal learning techniques. These methods were designed to be interactive, experiential, and participant-centered, thereby facilitating deeper understanding and personal growth. By aligning these objectives with the broader goals of the Erasmus+ programme, particularly those related to fostering active citizenship, democracy, and participation in democratic life, "citizenSHIP" aimed to contribute significantly to the development of a more cohesive, inclusive, and vibrant European Union. Our commitment to these objectives reflects our belief in the transformative power of education and exchange in building the Europe of tomorrow—a continent united in diversity and strengthened by its citizens' active participation.
