Young queer men not only have to deal with all the restrictions that our society places on us because of us needing to conform to masculinity. In addition, queer men have to find space for themselves to develop a self-conscious queer identity in a heteronormative and cisnormative society. They also need to find their own relation to masculinity, as they often don't fit into traditional male gender norms and spaces. They need spaces to discover their own gender expression and self-confidence, where they can feel safe from discrimination and organise themselves as active citizens claiming their human rights. With this youth exchange, we wanted to gather young queer people to create a safer space for exchange, empowerment, creativity and active citizenship around masculinity and gender expression. We believed that giving a space for queer youth from different countries would empower them to be able to be more themselves. Our objectives were: 1. Create a safer space for queer youth from around Europe to be themselves, both at the youth exchange and in their daily lives after the project. 2. Promote young queer people’s active citizenship and increase their participation in society 3. Foster mutual understanding and solidarity between young queer people in different European countries 4. Promote existing and create new, creative queer responses to toxic masculinity and foster positive approaches to masculinity in society 5. Promote Erasmus+ as an opportunity for the participants 6. Create new long-lasting partnerships between organizations from all around Europe working with queer youth 7. Promote European values of democracy, human rights, gender equality and non-violence
