Objectives

The youth meeting should be carried out in the meaning of the overall topics migration and flight, international relations between Greece and Germany as well as social disadvantage. Reasons are the anti-democratic, Europe-critical and inhuman attitudes in the city of Dresden, but also increasingly in Greece, populist and right-wing conservative attitudes, which are questioned less and less and are adopted by many young people partly unquestioned. Right-wing parties and alliances are increasingly mobilizing and trying to win over young voters. In this process, values such as freedom, tolerance and respect for human rights are being lost and increasingly questioned, which also leads to cultural diversity being more and more perceived as a security threat. A central goal of the project was to encourage mobility as an important prerequisite for equal opportunities and social participation. Strengthening this is intended to reduce social inequalities in order to counteract these tendencies. Because, in our view, poverty and the limitation of participation are increasingly driving people into anti-democratic attitudes. We wanted to show the young people how all this is connected (including German-Greek relations) in a low-threshold way and partly through their own research, in order to rethink existing attitudes through understanding. Through the preparatory meetings and the pre-visit, in which both the German and the Greek participants could get involved in the implementation of the program, participation should be strengthened and disadvantaged young people should be given the chance to experience self-efficacy. In addition, these young people with fewer opportunities were to be given the opportunity to work on improving key competences and skills that will help them in their living environment. These include conflict skills, empathy, social intergation, and solidarity. It is precisely these goals that make up intercultural education, which is why they were a further focus alongside the peer-to-peer approach. Within these main points, topics and contents were to be placed in a low-threshold and informal way. In addition to topics such as prejudice, discrimination, culture and modern media, the focus this year was to be on "migration" in particular. Ultimately, dealing with this topic should primarily serve to promote empathy and solidarity through similar problem situations of the participants and to build tolerance.
