In the years 2011, 2012, and 2013, the European Intercultural Forum, alongside with local partners in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, delved into the youth landscape of the Caucasus. Three study visits were implemented to explore the status of volunteering, human rights, and youth participation. Ten years after, we decided to revisit these three countries to encompass the advancements witnessed in the youth sector over the last decade. The idea was to explore the potential for international cooperation and mutual learning with local youth organizations and their counterparts from the EU in the following key areas: community development, youth empowerment and participation, and local and international volunteering. This initiative unfolds within the context of dynamic societal transformations evident in all three Caucasian countries. These shifts are marked by a lively youth culture and the burgeoning growth of civil society. However, these positive developments face great challenges arising from economic difficulties, specific political dynamics, and the distinct geopolitical landscape of the region. Within this intricate setting, youth workers and community leaders throughout Europe have a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights and learning experiences. Likely, local youth organizations in the Caucasus are eager to embrace novel approaches and perspectives concerning youth-led community development. The project was designed to deepen understanding of the local context, explore innovative initiatives, comprehend operational challenges of local organizations implementing youth programmes, and actively fostering synergies and the establishment of long-term partnerships. In this context, the project aimed to foster transnational partnerships for youth-led community development driven by local and international youth stakeholders who are committed to a youth-centred approach to education, participation and cooperation. With this formulated aim the project pursued the following three interconnected objectives: - To enhance the competences of youth workers and young community leaders to connect and empower young people to actively engage in processes of community development - To foster a trans-European dialogue on approaches, means and practices for youth-led community development - To strengthen transnational partnerships and cooperation for youth-led community development, youth participation and the promoting of local and international volunteering - Themes addressed by the project were: Principles and approaches of youth empowerment work; Approaches to community development; Youth work as an instrument for community development Aligned with the priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme, this project sought to achieve two overarching goals. Firstly, it aspired to contribute to 1) promoting diversity, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, and instilling common values such as freedom, tolerance, respect for human rights, and critical thinking, 2) equip participants with competences and methodologies, specifically within the realms of youth empowerment work and youth-led community development. The objective was to facilitate the transfer of fundamental European values to young people, with a particular emphasis on reinforcing nonviolent approaches to counter radicalization and address threats to democratic participation in Europe. In direct alignment with the objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme, this project had three key focal points. Firstly, it endeavoured to 1) elevate the level of key competences and skills among youth and community workers, promoting intercultural dialogue, social inclusion, and solidarity. Secondly, the project aimed to 2) enhance the quality of youth work, fostering excellence in the methodologies employed. Lastly, it sought to 3) augment the international dimension of youth activities, bolstering the capacity of youth organizations to effectively support and engage with young individuals.
