Objectives

The aim of this project was to train ecologically interested and active young people who have an interest in expanding their knowledge in the field of insects and biodiversity and to get involved in youth work in order to raise their awareness of the very important issue of biodiversity through the insect-friendly design of areas and joint activities with children and young people. In particular, the participants were to gain practical experience in developing and implementing the concept of an insect-friendly garden, including the acquisition of pedagogical skills to communicate the topic to young people and children in a playful and interactive way. The aim was to organise a public insect festival for families, which was to take place in the Kragujevac Botanical Garden at the end of the youth exchange. In addition, the aim was for the participants to develop and realise a campaign following the youth exchange to create 100 insect-friendly mini-gardens (each the size of a bed). The aim was also to gain experience with the insect festival in the Kragujevac Botanical Garden in order to subsequently organise similar events at home in their own environment. In this way, the participants should not only acquire skills in the field of ecology, but also in project and campaign management, as well as in the pedagogical communication of topics to children and young people. The participants can use these skills in a variety of ways in their lives. The experiences and skills gained were then to be published in a jointly designed brochure in English, Spanish, Russian, German and Serbian. Ultimately, the aim was also for young people from different countries to get to know each other, learn from each other, get to know Europe better, share intercultural experiences and learn and experience many new and exciting things together.
