The objectives of the project where to have the participants get to know the Betzavta method, learn about democracy and reflect on their behavior within groups in connection to the topic of democracy. During the first project (seminar) the participants experienced via different activities the Betzavta method. Within the activities they learned to reflect on democracy, shared experiences and ideas on how democracy should look like and what is missing. One objective – which was met during the project – was that the participants are supported to reflect on their behavior within groups and what impact their behavior has on others and on the process and result of any group action/activity. They shared their views and perspectives and thus were enabled to reflect and broaden their openness for the decisions (and reasons for the decision) of others and thus be more open to find a way forward together (instead of competition). The participants also discussed issues such as inclusion, participation, conflict management, anti-racism etc. which was also an objective of the seminar. Learning objectives of the training course were: The project aims were to develop and improve the conflict management competences of youth workers and youth leaders. This was successfully done by developping their skills in bringing topics such as democracy, inclusion, participation etc. in their work and enabling them to support inter-cultural work. One of the main ideas of the project that were brought to the participants was that personal responsibility and independence are cornerstones of democracy, inclusive group dynamics and positive social change. Thus, the focus was on the participants getting input and support in reflecting their part of democratic societies as participants and then learn how to use different methods to enable others to do so. The objective was to teach the participants different methods including the Betzavta methods. Thus, by using and teaching the Betzavta experiential education method, the activities aimed to stimulate the participants to become agents of social change, working towards a more open, democratic and inclusive society, based on their recognized personal responsibility and critical evaluation of their own behaviour and ability to multiply the experience of the activity: Both, directly (via delivering a training session on Betzavta methods) and indirectly (via the change in their behavior and a more constructive approach to conflict stemming out of it). The project ´s objectives where therefore to bring up the topics: democratic values, tolerance, respect, acknowledging people’s needs, group dynamics and the way of decision-making up in different activities. The method works through constant active involvement in learning from emerging mostly dilemma-based situations, the participants become increasingly aware of their own behaviour, and its potential discrepancies from the mental image they have about themselves. This objective was as well met in the project phases.
