Objectives

Gender inequality is present in every society in the World, and Gender-based Violence is one of the most widespread forms of human rights abuse and a violation of human dignity anywhere, including all the member states of Council of Europe. Significant barriers to full and equal participation exist in education, employment and political and public decision making. Worldwide, girls have less access to education than boys; 60% of countries have fewer girls than boys in primary and secondary education. Although in most European countries there are equal numbers of boys and girls in education – and in fact often more women in tertiary education – gender parity is only one step towards full gender equality. There are often other barriers to the full participation of girls. Girls may be encouraged to study certain subjects (for example the arts and humanities over science and engineering) seen as more fitting to dominant gender stereotypes. It is very likely that this leads to differences in attainment. For example, across Europe girls achieve lower grades in science and technology and boys underachieve in reading ability. Sexual bullying and harassment in schools is widespread. Gender equality is a value in its own right, and not only a means to other ends. Aim of this youth exchange is increasing participants’ awareness towards the role of the gender balance and equality in Youth Work and providing them with necessary insight and education tools for a gender-sensitive approach to human rights education within their work and their communities. The objectives of this youth exchange are: - To develop participant’s knowledge and understanding on various concepts related to gender issues and emphasize the importance of gender equality in youth work and how it can be put into practice - To develop the understanding of the role of gender and equality in youth work; - To build capacities of our partner organizations to deal with Gender Equality topic - To train youth workers in gender awareness and anti-discriminatory practices; - To improve networking amongst local youth workers at grass root level; sharing best practice of gender related activities; - To learn about gender equality and share / compare the realities in EU and Western Balkan countries.
