Objectives

Our society is increasingly looking for flexible and creative people willing to take action and inspire others, create possibilities and be pro-active. Our contemporary world is experiencing a period of great change, where next to the ongoing social transformations are needed parallel personal paths of evolution. Alongside the social policies to find the balance, we need to carry on a process of personal growth and awareness that starts from each individual. Partnerorganizations based on a long discussion found a common need of raising public awareness about growing issues of radicalism and terrorism, as outcomes of nationalism and extremism that more and more young people are following. We decided to write this project to raise awareness about the role of youth workers against violent radicalization. In this regard, youth workers work on development of young people’s life skills, critical thinking, intercultural competences, active citizenship, and promotion of diversity, common values of freedom and tolerance through non-formal and informal learning, as emphasised through the Paris Declaration (European Union 2015). Youth work may also provide safe spaces for discussions, approaching controversial topics, questions and opportunities for young people’s engagement, allowing them to openly and honestly raise questions and jointly discuss the dangers of violent radicalisation and myths of radical ideologies. The aim of the project “Raise Your Voice to Youth Extreme Behaviours - RiVeR” is to equip youth workers with knowledge, competences and tools that allow them to prevent youth radicalization. During the project youth workers will have the possibility to share, improve and gain new knowledge and skills about violent radicalization, youth inclusion, social cohesion, intercultural dialogue, integration, conflict management; current tendencies of religion extremism, possible solutions for existing challenges, examples of activities aimed at de-radicalisation, as well as discussions and meetings with representatives of local authorities and stakeholders will take place. The main objectives of the project “Raise Your Voice to Youth Extreme Behaviours- RiVeR” are: 1. Exploring the concept of youth radicalisation, its forms and manifestations, and how youth workers can have a role in its prevention, 2. Understanding the origins and the background of terrorism and radicalism and their influence on young people consciousness, 3. Analysing how Social media play significant roles in radicalizing youth, 4. Developing youth workers’ competences necessary to deal with the issue of radicalization and terrorism, 5. Identifying and apply conflict management techniques, 6. Using efficient communication methods to overcome communication barriers, 7. Working off a common “Action Plan” on prevention of radicalization with a special focus to youth, affected by asylum seekers, crisis and conflicts, 8. Increasing participants’ understanding regarding the role of youth work in preventing violent radicalisation and in supporting young people’s resilience and empowerment, 9. Exchanging of good practices and tools from different countries, 10. Start a collaboration that could be a base of a KA2 project where partners explore the needs, common points and think on the creation of a youth workers platform to support their works. In conclusion, by implementing this project we are looking to: 1. To explore the concept of youth radicalisation, its forms and manifestations, and how youth work can have a role in its prevention, 2.To increase participants’ understanding regarding the role of youth work in preventing violent radicalisation and in supporting young people’s resilience and empowerment, 3. To create a space for sharing inspiring practices among participants and for identifying adaptations of existing practices, 4. To strengthen the links of youth work to related fields and sectors where cooperation is useful in order to achieve more on the theme of violent radicalisation, 5. To explore support measures of Erasmus + Youth Chapter and other programmes for youth NGOs working on the theme of the conference.
