The main goal of this Youth Exchange is to tackle the issue of stigma by engaging young people that are eager to express themselves through arts. Seeing that especially during the era of COVID more and more young people and groups of youth got stigmatized within their communities, this project aimed to deal with this problem by promoting the artistic expression as a means of raising awareness and making people more sensitive to the issue at hand. Under this general concept, the project targeted at gathering young people with artistic interests and have them work together on artistic projects that stress and underline the reality of stigmatized groups of young people in our society. In other words, the goal, which was successfully achieved, was for the young participants to use the arts, like theatre, music, photography etc, as a means of expression regarding the topic, not only to raise awareness but to also promote inclusion and create impactful, “educational” content for the society. Therefore, this Youth Exchange also aimed to stress out the important role proper education and information play when it comes to stigma and the need of promoting inclusion in our diversity and equity. The core of this Youth Exchange was the artistic expression as a means of engaging young people into actively tackling the issue at hand. Nonetheless, another major goal was to properly educate and train the young participants in a more theoretical aspect of the topic. Through the explanation and analyzing of theories, policies and initiatives that aim to tackle stigma among youth, the project aimed to help young people better understand the variety of terms, the importance of using proper terms when referring to cases of stigma and the concept of “shutting down” stigmatization among peers, as well as some pertinent to the topic skills, such as active listening and empathy. Naturally, since it has been part of the main concept, another important goal of this Youth Exchange, as mentioned before, has been the expression through arts and artistic creation as a means of raising awareness and motivating young people to deal with the topic at hand. Moreover, regarding the general skills and competences, the project aimed to equip the young participants with a variety of skills, such as creativity and an artistic mindset, organizational skills, team working as well as the ability to be comfortable talking in a common language that is not their mother tongue. Additionally, the young participants would get the opportunity to live with people from other nationalities and cultural backgrounds, learn to respect and understand the diverse variety of people that live among us and would, therefore, broaden their horizons and enrich their understanding of our multicultural society with an international experience! These skills are considered important for their everyday life in more than one aspect and of course are aligned with the objectives and goals of the Erasmus+ Programme.
