Objectives

Based on the joint reading of the territory and the life of young people, due to the depopulation processes, the transformation of living and working conditions in the territory, and the environmental impact of the life model. A cultural exchange project was proposed to enable young people to address three of their main interests, according to a Eurobarometer report (Flash 455), such as education and learning skills, environmental protection and employment opportunities. Thus the project aimed to respond to the purposes of the Erasmus+ programme and the European Union, in that it worked from the needs of young people and their contexts; promoting empowerment and the formulation of alternatives from the young people themselves. Therefore, the objectives of the project were: 1) raising youth awareness of the importance of the rural world beyond agricultural activities (round tables with the elderly); 2) recognition of their territories and their environmental value; 3) participation in and understanding of certain rural activities (workshops on traditional trades); and 4) proposing options for a dignified stay in the territory with sustainable and profitable practices. Likewise, the project has meant for the young people the possibility of improving in transversal aspects such as improving their communication and social skills, the practice of a second language (such as English), meeting young people from other countries and cultures. It has also involved the valuation of rural work, both for young people and older people. It is worth noting that the project was planned to be developed in the summer of 2021 but due to health conditions it was postponed for a year, and in 2022 it was possible to carry out the exchange together with the rest of the phases planned for 2020.
