The objectives of the project were: • Strengthening of the connection with the nature and respective way of being in nature • Learning new skills in nature and achieving greater personal resilience to negative current issues • Enjoying nature and improving one’s overall health through spending time in nature and engaging in activities • Getting to know the new environment and learning to cope in new circumstances • Learning about climate change and coming up with new ways to tackle it Our both group consisted of participants that had never been to arctic circle or as north. For us it was of great importance to realize the project middle of the nature and city distractions, so that the group would have a chance to really experience the wilderness and nature in a new way. We chose Pikku-Syöte as our destination since it is located really faraway from any other services beside the hotel itself. It is surrounded by vast nature area and already the first views from the hotel showed our group that there is only forest and nature around as far as one can see. We had gone through with our group that there are no services around the area but they were still surprised how isolated from the civilization we were and there actually was no public transportation or any services around beside a tiny kiosk 3km away. The Finnish group is from capital city and therefore used to having services open 24 hours a day just all the services 5 minutes walk to the biggest shopping centre of Nordic countries from their homes. We though that this setting will provide them much deeper understanding of our topic and the affect of climate change. We know that these topics are muched talked about in schools and media but youngsters living in big cities have not got strong connection with nature or nature skills and therefore deeply understanding climate change and it affects is hard for them in practice. Our project aimed to strengthen that connection and deepen their understanding but also giving them hope of finding solutions.
