Objectives

The Youth Exchange "Living Book" involved 42 young people from France, Hungary, Spain, Romania, Turkey and Italy aged 18-27 in Île-de-France, France, where through non-formal education methods within 7 days they assimilated the Living Library method as a method of combating social exclusion, discrimination and stereotypes. At the end of the project, they presented the live library event to the local community, on the 8th December in Les Halles, Paris. The human library methodology was an important element of youth exchange. Its main goal was to create a constructive personal dialogue between people who usually have no opportunity to talk to each other and thus cause common prejudices and stereotypes. The meeting objectives of our youth exchange were: a) To develop participant’s competencies in the area of social exclusion, discrimination and hate speech, to raise their theoretical knowledge about these concepts; b) to provide the participants an opportunity to learn and explore various activities and tools being used to fight social exclusion, discrimination and hate speech, with special focus to be paid to human libraries; c) to give the participants an opportunity to directly experience part of the process of creating and realizing human library event and to encourage them to share this practice in their countries and communities as effective way of creating socially inclusive societies; d) to empower the participants to become active in the area of fighting discrimination, social exclusion and hate speech and to take active role in the process of creating socially inclusive society; e) to develop participants competences such as teamwork, leadership, communication, presentation and to contribute to their personal and professional development; f) to raise intercultural competencies of the participants by giving them an opportunity to interact and work with young people coming from different European countries and also local community from the hosting country; g) to raise knowledge of the participants about Erasmus + Programme and its Key Action 1 and to encourage the participants to take active part in the Programme, especially in ESC, youth exchanges or training course; h) to support creating network and partnerships between participating organizations, exchange of good practices among participating countries. By meeting all above mentioned objectives the youth exchange contributed to achieving goals of Europe 2020 strategy and Erasmus + Programme.
