Racism is based on the idea that certain categories of people are inferior to others because of their origin, culture, skin color, religion, etc. As a result, they are discriminated against, stigmatized, excluded and this ideology has led to the worst atrocities in our history. Racism and xenophobia are particularly nourished by fear, misunderstanding of the other, a political and economic crisis, etc. They lead to racial prejudice and intolerant attitudes. Today, we are facing a rise of nationalist governments in Europe, sailing on a Europe in political and economic crisis and making amalgams with "the migratory crisis" and "the others" as the source of the problems, as well as a diffusion of racist remarks on social networks. As an example, in 2019 in France, there was an explosion of +130% of racist and xenophobic acts (public report of the Ministry of the Interior). No state escapes this and this issue must then be widely debated and explained in all spheres of society and in all socialization environments. Associations and youth workers, being one of these places and actors interacting with young people, must also play this important role. However, following numerous exchanges with our partners, it became clear that because of the public with whom they mostly worked, who were often discriminated against, it was essential to increase their skills in the fight against racism, in a very changing society, with information circulating very quickly and with many new publics affected (e.g. young refugees and exiles). This project was therefore designed to train youth workers on the issue of the fight against racism so that they can respond in an educational way to young people on this issue and be a resource for them in terms of information, awareness and actions. The response to racism can be done through different means by making people understand racism, discrimination, and how we go from prejudice to discrimination. Understand that racism is a crime that is severely punished by the law, just like discrimination. Understand how to act when you are a witness or victim of racist or discriminatory acts. Situations, concrete case studies, simulations and testimonies were on the program during this training for an exchange of good practices.
