Concordia Normandie Maine, through the organization of the "Cycling for Biodiversity, Changing our Agriculture" project, aimed to train a group of young people in the specific knowledge of agroecology, alternative agriculture and environmental protection. The other objective of the project was to raise awareness of the notion of biodiversity. Conventional agriculture, through the cultivation of large plots of land, the levelling of hedges and the draining of waterholes, is proving to be highly destructive of floral and faunal biodiversity. The high-dose use of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides reinforces the erosion of biodiversity to such an extent that bird and pollinator populations are plummeting. Agroecology and organic farming, on the other hand, go back to the fundamentals of agriculture: soil rotation and complementarity between animal and plant production. The aim of the project was to specifically address the measures implemented by farmers to protect biodiversity. Finally, our last objective was for the young people to learn about agroecology and biodiversity, but also to play an active role in the project, acquiring skills and know-how in the process.
