Objectives

We accompanied a group of 13 young teenagers who have been involved since October 2019 in various projects. After various stages, the group wanted to meet young Europeans, in order to discover another culture, to experience convivial moments and to discuss sustainable development. Our role of supporting young people as well as the relevance of these objectives in relation to our associative project, naturally led us to take an interest in the European mobility system that is the Erasmus+ program (with the support of the House of Europe in Sarthe). It seems important to us that our young people can live an intercultural experience that will develop new individual and collective skills. It will also be the opportunity to live their first experience of European citizenship but also to mobilize in the face of the challenges of sustainable development, a global issue that particularly affects young people. The Erasmus+ project is a great opportunity for these young people from rural areas, faced with geographical, social, cultural or economic obstacles to have such an experience. We wanted this project to be an opportunity for the implementation of a real action process by young people. By taking the necessary time, we left room for the group of young French people to make the choices and make the decisions on this project. They are the ones who wished, after a presentation of the various opportunities, to enroll in the Erasmus+ program and work on the preparation of an application for October 2020. The team of facilitators from the sector follows them in this process and guides them. at best, with the help of various local partners. The young people chose their theme, they participated in the definition of the ideal partner structure and its selection, in the development of the schedule. They divided up the work in small groups to make progress on the various aspects of the practical organization of the exchange, drew up a retroplan to organize their year, until the completion of the exchange in October 2021. They involved as much as possible in the drafting of the application, all the questions were asked to them, and a work of synthesis and writing was then done by the youth workers. We are very proud to have proposed this project around sustainable development which has enabled our territory, in rural areas, to open up to others, to Europe, to engage in a process of welcoming and meeting and intercultural exchanges. These are precious experiences, in the current context and especially in the development of the citizenship of our young people, who in full adolescence benefit and will continue to benefit without any doubt from this richness of cultural mixtures, and from the appearance new landmarks in their way of apprehending the world. The theme chosen is a central theme in the educational development of young people and their construction as young, eco-responsible citizens. By selecting a partner in Germany, an association that has worked for a long time in the field of youth and the autonomy of young people, we had rich exchanges and reflection on the practices of each, and the way whose different European countries are currently managing the climate crisis. Artistic expression seemed to us to be a vector of fluid communication, despite the language barrier, and interesting, so that the young people all cooperate together in a common achievement that they proudly presented at the end of the exchange to the citizens of the territory. As a result, the "recovered art" work has also enabled us to involve the territory, in particular in the search for materials that can be used, and to leave the imprint of this exchange of young people. What better than art to question practices and consciences? In any case, young people have the feeling that this has made it possible to tackle a subject that is sometimes difficult to tackle positively, namely sustainable development, and to do something beautiful with it. They were accompanied throughout the week by local partners, an artist in particular on this creation, but also the ONF, Sarthe Nature Environnement, the LPO... and also the Maison de l'Europe, and stakeholders in games of roles. This project has allowed us to give a new dynamic and a new image to our local partners, the House of Projects opens to Europe, fully and with enthusiasm!
