Objectives

By carrying out this project, we want to empower 25 youngsters, accompanied by 5 team leaders, to develop resilience, healthy habits, and tools that will help them get through the crisis provoked by the coronavirus pandemic, maintaining their physical and mental health. Faced with a crisis that’s incomparable to anything we’ve lived so far as a society and with drastic changes to our everyday lives, both our mental and physical health easily gets out of balance. Not knowing the outcome of the situation and what the future will look like easily triggers anxiety in all of us. Social distancing, the closing of borders, and rises in unemployment rates have hit hart particularly on the young generation, who’s otherwise the most social and active generation, but when it comes to the work market, already marginalized. The pandemic and the measures taken to control it have resulted in rising stress, anxiety, and depression levels. Although youth work cannot provide the answers to resolve this crisis, it does have resources that can support young people to live through it, develop resilience, and find methods to cope with the stress. In this project, we want to raise the self-awareness of the participants using methods of outdoor experiential learning and non-formal education. Using the framework of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the team leaders and participants are going to explore all the levels of human needs and identify methods of self-care that work for themselves. During 7 days of the exchange, the participants are going to join in on the various individual, pair, and group activities and experiences and develop a range of competencies that will help them maneuver everyday life in the “new normal”. The objectives of the project are the following: - Equip 25 youngsters and 5 youth leaders with methods and tools to use in their everyday lives that improve their mental and physical health - To let the participants develop healthy habits and motivation to keep them up, as well as a knowledge of what a healthy lifestyle encompasses - To develop the participants’ communication and social skills, and their understanding of community and interpersonal relationships as protective factors in times of crisis - To develop solidarity between countries and cultures, promote European values and develop the participants’ intercultural skills - To raise the participants’ awareness about the opportunities they have for personal and professional development through EU funded programs and promote the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programs - To raise awareness in the public of the need for protecting young people’s mental and physical health through preventive actions and non-formal education
