Objectives

The primary objective of the project was to enhance emotional intelligence among young individuals within the communities where partner organizations are actively engaged. The project idea had been a long-standing concern of the consortium, as the importance of emotional intelligence in leading a fulfilling and successful life had gained more attention. Studies had shown that individuals with higher emotional intelligence experienced less depression, better health, and stronger connections with others. However, many young people, particularly during adolescence, faced difficulties in understanding and regulating their own emotions, accurately interpreting others' messages, and coping with various stressful situations. These challenges often led to personality issues, depression, poor social integration, and lower academic performance. Amidst the global difficulties brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the partners once again emphasized the need for acquiring necessary skills to cope in a changing world. The isolation, unemployment, and fears for the health of loved ones posed significant challenges for citizens, especially young people who felt powerless and uncertain about how to improve their situation. They were inundated with information and struggled to discern the truth. Within the partnership, a questionnaire was created to explore the challenges faced by young people during these times. The questionnaire was distributed to previous projects' Facebook groups within the consortium, and 117 young people completed it. The respondents highlighted several significant concerns, including the uncertainty of the situation, the duration of isolation, and changes to their educational paths. The feelings experienced by the respondents included fear, anxiety, disappointment, and a sense of helplessness. The target group of this project consisted of youths between the ages of 15 and 29, a crucial period when they learn to develop and sustain relationships and build their confidence. The identified needs of young people within the partner communities were as follows: -Understanding and managing their own emotions through discussions and examples. -Coping with and managing their emotions in stressful situations through simulations. -Building confidence by taking initiative. -Increasing adaptability in multicultural contexts. -Improving communication skills through real-life practice. Together with our partners we initiated a Youth Exchange (YE) project that utilized non-formal methods, including games, discussions, theater, and simulations, to develop the capacity of young people to be aware of their feelings, increase empathy towards others, and act with less impulsivity, ultimately leading to improved emotional intelligence. The project aimed to provide a safe context for 49 youths aged 15-29 from Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Portugal, and Spain to share ideas, opinions, and experiences, with the goal of developing their emotional intelligence for their overall well-being and future professional lives. The following objectives were achieved by the end of the project: O1. Facilitated an international non-formal context in which 49 young people from Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Portugal, and Spain explored and reflected on how to cope with and manage their emotions in relation to their actions, the actions of others, and societal events. O2. Raised awareness among 200 youths (indirect beneficiaries) from the six communities of the partner organizations about the tools they can use to cope with societal and peer pressure, thereby improving their well-being and mental health. O3. Equipped the partner organizations with non-formal methods and tools to enhance their operational capacities in supporting young people facing stressful situations. The project contributed to the following: -The Erasmus+ guide by improving the level of key competences and skills, particularly in the youth field, by enhancing self-empowerment and self-esteem. - ET 2020 by contributing to the achievement of Youth Goal no. 5, which focuses on improving the health and well-being of young people. - The EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027 by empowering youths to be architects of their own lives, fostering resilience, and equipping with life skills to adapt in a changing world; contributing to a better social inclusion by involving young people with fewer opportunities.
