Labour market issues incl. career guidance / youth unemployment

Objectives

With this project, we aimed to increase the access of 136 young people from Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia (48 direct participants in an international youth exchange and around 80 beneficiaries of follow-up activities) to engage in a career path suitable for their education, needs, and skill sets. We raised awareness of the benefits of volunteering and involved them in activities that boosted the skills that employers were searching for on today's labor market. There was a fourth project partner from Czech Republic, Youth for Youth but they have withdrawn at the beginning of the project period due to their large volume of work (participants were redistributed to the Slovakian partner). The project included a youth exchange mobility at Parádfürdő, Hungary which took place between April 27 – May 6, 2022 (the date of the mobility has been changed due to Covid-19 restrictions) The project idea started off from a focus group which we had in August 2020 with a group of 20 volunteers, aged 18 to 30 years old, participants in previous E+ projects. The results had shown us that: - young people thought companies care too little about the individual needs of employers, focus on exploiting people’ potential and not giving enough back, and managers are too rigid; -those who volunteered, had better skills in dealing with new people, new contexts and had abilities in changing, influencing, debating and contributing then those who did not volunteer; - many times youths felt they can’t change anything so they just leave their workplaces; - those who had been engaged in volunteering activities had gained skills that proved useful on the labour market and made it easier for them to get employed as they could share at the interviews with their employers diversified experiences, told them what they did as volunteers, unlike their peers who have done only studies; - 65 % of youths aged 20 to 30 years old from our own communities changed in average 4 work places in the last 3 years and had periods of unemployment in between had ranged from a few months to half a year. Also, according to a LinkedIn survey, 41% of LinkedIn members (HR talent scouts) considered volunteer work equally as valuable as paid work experience when evaluating candidates. We consulted with our partners and advised them to consult with their youths, as we wanted to develop a project that could put to value all the things we achieved in working with youths in the past years and made a very simple survey with 3 questions, on a group of 80 youths (20/each country) that helped us draw the conclusions above. Objectives reached: O1. Raised awareness of 136 young people, of the local community and other stakeholders on the importance of volunteering in educating the young generations; O2. Built and enhanced skills required on today's labour market of 48 participants to the youth exchange organised as part of the project, so that they have a more stable career path. O3. Promoted volunteering as an alternative and additional educational resource for the young people participating directly in the project activities and helped them integrate their volunteering experiences in their CVs and during interviews and discussions with potential employers as well as on different social media profiles and descriptions. Our objectives contributed to reaching the following Erasmus+ programme objectives and supporting strategies: 1. Resolution on the European Union Youth Strategy 2019-2027, and its two main objectives: To provide more and equal opportunities for young people in education and the job market; To encourage young people to actively participate in society. 2. Europe 2020 Goals - empowering youth by developing their skills to increase their employability.
