We have years of experience working with the younger generation and saw how they are struggling to have conversations about “more difficult” topics such as race, religion, gender equality, immigrants, politics, etc. Researchers also show that the absence of inclusive communication cause growing ignorance among people, social exclusion, intolerance and daily miscommunication acts. It is proved that ignoring important topics or handling such conversations neglectfully may even sabotage performance at work or school, reduce efficiency and strive for innovation. Our NGO, as well as our partners, realized this need and we decided that youth work methods and techniques based on inclusive communication need to be experienced and integrated into our daily youth work activities based on the needs of our target groups to a higher extent than we had before the project. We made our own research with our youth workers, youth leaders, and volunteers to see what their professional learning needs are. The outcomes were: - an urgent need for the development of inclusive communication skills of youth workers and youth leaders in order to be able to work with young people with a diverse background - a need for understanding different communication codes of young people - need for youth work methods and techniques locally and European level in order to prevent and resolve inter-ethnic conflict among young people with different cultural backgrounds Our goal was to train youth workers, youth leaders who are directly working with young people with difficult backgrounds e.g. migrants, minorities, marginalized young people, etc. so they become able to create a stronger and trustful connection with their target group. Objectives that were achieved: O1. Youth workers from 6 organizations learnt about inclusive conversations methodology and how apply the methodology in their youth work practice with focus on youth belonging to marginalized groups. O2. Youth workers from 6 organizations increased their inclusive communication competences and became able to use them to raise intercultural awareness, tolerance and understanding in their communities. O3. Youth workers changed their attitudes and acquired necessary mindset and self-confidence to initiative and moderate inclusive conversations.
