ReCreativity is committed towards environmental questions, and the topic of sustainability - one of the main aims of the organisation is educating people and sharing knowledge on these topics. Based on our experience working especially with international groups we noticed that these topics are becoming more and more important to young people and more people are becoming committed to a more sustainable living. This is the reason why we thought it would be important to create an opportunity for people working with youngsters to meet likeminded colleagues who are also willing to make steps in this area. Dora Presszeller joined this project who has years of experience with the fields of mindfulness and meditation and who realised in her own environment eco-anxiety as a phenomenon. Combining these two areas of expertise, we created this project which was based on years of experience and implementation of international training courses. The project ‘Skillshop’ had 2 main aims: Once we aimed to equip our participants with new skills and methods which help their work with young people and which they can also pass on to their target groups. In the centre of this aim stood the development of self-awareness, confidence and mindfulness, and its effects on us and our environment. Besides that, participants also developed their communication, leadership and facilitation skills. Secondly, we focused on the topic of sustainability, which is a topic that is more and more important among young people. The participants gained new knowledge through art and design, and learned new things in the topics of environmental protection and sustainability. They exchanged best practices, were thinking together and created new things within the framework of international learning. The main target group of the project were youth workers, trainers, teachers who work with young people and who are committed towards the topics of sustainability and mindfulness. We were aiming to work with people who are ready to implement in their own practices what they learn at the training course. The main aims of the project were to create spaces for young people where they feel safe and where they can freely express themselves. For that we believe it is crucial to equip youth workers with skills, tools and methods which can support them in the creation of such spaces. The specific objectives of the project were: Skills development, to learn self-observation methods in order to raise self-confidence - social and personal skills development through different nonformal educational methods - especially with the methods of creative recycling and meditation to explore learning and working sytles as ways of self-reflection Rethinking the terms of “sustainability” and “mindfulness” - to discover how mindfulness, cooperation and sustainability are interconnected in the learning process to explore new facilitation methods and tools for youth workers to hold the space, and include youngsters with different abilities and talents to discuss about self-expression methods and tools for youth workers as tools for self-development in the field of youth work We tried to involve participants in all phases of the project - from the preparation until the follow up. We created platforms for them to share their own ideas and bring their own expertise as well. During the training course they also developed and implemented their own educational materials which they shared with each other and which they can now use in their everyday work with young people.
