Objectives

The main objectives were three: - To make young people in our local communities to understand the importance of a democratic system and risks that populism can bring in our society (authoritarianism, totalitarianism etc.); - To contribute to youngsters' understanding of the European Union, its history, diversity and to raise awareness of remembrance, common history and values and the aim of the European Union; - To increase the participants democratic dimension, to understand the values of democracy and feel them more european. Around these three objectives, we have built a whole series of activities based on non-formal education (role play games, quiz game, presentations, treasure hunts and many others) in order to give participants the opportunity to deepen the topic, look to the recent past and to gain experiences and share them among others. We have analyzed issues such as active citizenship, democracy, promoted democratic participation of young people, increased their international and multicultural dimension, raised awareness for social issues such as solidarity, respect, tolerance and sharpen tools such as dialogue, listening skills and empathy. Through the planned activities, we have developed in the participants important soft skills like analytical and critical think, teamwork, active listening and many others in order to increase their sense of self-empowerment and self-esteem. Moreover, in order to discuss also about the antagonists of democracy who faced also aspects and behaviours like fanaticism, intolerance, racism, antisemithism, lack of social rights and inequalities, just to name of few of them.
