The original idea of the project DreamShapers, to carry out a youth exchange in Nógrád county came around in 2019. Egyesek has a community of young people around us, who had the opportunity to join youth exchanges and short-term volunteering projects in the past several years - young people who have fewer opportunities, living in segregated communities with challenges like geographical, social, economic obstacles and cultural differences as well. These young people, having taken part in international opportunities, started their local initiatives (some of them carrying out their own European Solidarity Corps solidarity projects) and supported our long-term ESC projects' international volunteers as mentors or buddies. And they approached us with the idea and the need to have a youth exchange again in Nógrád - to provide the opportunity to fellow young people facing fewer opportunities to experience a European experience in their own neighbourhood. After carrying out a needs assessment and brainstorming with these young people came the idea of DreamShapers - a 12-day youth exchange focused on the topic of entrepreneurship - turning ideas into action, empowering young people with fewer opportunities (many first-time participants, social and economical obstacles), while learning through experiencing and exploring the power of non-formal education (for the first time as well). As Egyesek has the core values resonating with social entrepreneurship, we were glad to support their idea, and submit the project in 2020. We also saw this as a great opportunity to show young people how they can give back to their communities - while creating an opportunity for them to practice facilitation and organising an EU project. The objectives of our project were: - to increase the confidence and autonomy of young people facing fewer opportunities, by - creating a safe space for 42 young people to live, learn and work together - discovering other cultures and - identifying their unique strengths and talents to apply in their future through - creating their own initiatives in the local area of Nógrád and - learning from each other. We wanted to carry out a youth exchange that has objectives clearly reflecting EU values and goals for young people - that is why entrepreneurship was a great topic for us to tackle. We believe that providing learning opportunities for young people facing fewer opportunities is a great way to contribute to equality while creating a safe space for intercultural dialogue between young people coming from very different cultural, social and economic backgrounds. In addition to our topic, also the overarching methodologies and learning opportunities were focused on EU and Erasmus + goals. Our objective was to bring together young people from different countries to live and learn together, creating a unique learning opportunity. We created a program to discover, reflect and develop their skills and competencies while experiencing learning outside of the formal school system. We aimed at increasing their employability skills by both creating an environment for practising communicating in a different language, as well as letting them realise, reflect on and improve several of their skills and competencies, through nonformal and informal learning moments. It was our objective to empower our participants by letting them experience first-hand how much they are already capable of, what kind of strengths they have that are useful for a community and with this increase their self-esteem. We also framed DreamShapers as a first-time experience, and a gateway to further mobility opportunities for the young people taking part in it.
