Objectives

The young people of four countries (Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine), who are living at a peripheral, economically under-developed area, we wanted to accomplish the „Let’s do it ourselves!” youth exchange to got to know a new point of view with non-formal learning, which helped us to plan the future with a critical thinking, while took care of our enviroment’s sustainability and have chance to see how to start new businesses. Through non-formal and informal learning methodes, collaborative learning and collaboration, we created an intercultural collection called the "Let’s do it ourselves!", that represents many values: it contains entrepreneurial, special, traditional, European and local values, helps young people to create jobs, provides opportunities and also draws attention to sustainability. It was important to enable many disadvantaged young people to participate in a critical thinking program where participants jointly planned, jointly implemented, and jointly evaluated and promoted their work. The main goal of our project was to work together on the concept of "Let’s do it ourselves" approach in order to see its opportunities, improve our initiative, respect sustainability and develop our media literacy and critical thinking. We aimed to improve many main competencies throughout the program. Through entrepreneurial competences, we wanted to improve young people's sense of initiative and responsibility, and encourage them to innovate. We were more aware of the workplaces associated with „Let’s do it ourselves” topic, the opportunities that this offers and the desire to improve our entrepreneurial spirit. By developing science competence, they became able to act locally and think globally in pursuit of individual and community goals. As for interpersonal and citizenship related competencies, youth got the chance to familiarising themselves with an intercultural atmosphere. They learnt and accepted different cultures, which support the long process of an individual to become a member of the community. Learning to learn was also an important aspect of our program. With utilising the methods of projectwork and workshops plus peer learning, our aim was to help youth make good use of their newly gained skills in all walks of life, be it education, their workplace or an own business. Due to the topic, competencies related to technology and technical sciences were also be greatly developed, as joint work was at the heart of the program. Non-formal tasks also strengthened the competencies of writing, math, digital, and expressiveness. Foreign language competence also appeared, as in many programs (learning about competencies, writing songs, etc.) we took care of practicing multiple languages.
