Objectives

What we wanted to achieve by implementing this project came as a result of the collaboration of youth workers from 3 EU countries following one of our TC: "Enhance Media Literacy" back in November 2019 in Bandon, as a result, some partner organizations decided to explore the problem of prejudice and discrimination through the lens of migrant stories. Given the dramatic images on the screens of international television stations every day, there was no shortage of warnings that speak of a new "Migration Period" in global history and Europe faced the hugest migration after World War II. Though, it shows us the EU States were not prepared for such influxes to give an urgent solution to this issue. 60 percent of the refugee population coming to Europe are young people aged between aged 13-30. This project is in alignment with our YouthsRule Strategic Plan 2019-2022, our new YouthsRule Strategic Plan 2022-2025, European Education and Training 2020, Erasmus+ 2014-2020 objectives, Erasmus+2021- 2027 inclusion priorities, EU Action plan on Integration and Inclusion 2021-2027, and the EU Youth strategy Policies 2019-2027. It envisaged reaching out to young people with fewer opportunities, i.e. refugees, asylum seekers, and newly arrived migrants, either directly or indirectly through youth workers working with these groups. As established in the submitted application proposal that youth workers are not competent enough to provide non-formal education that fosters the inclusion of refugees and marginalized young people with migration backgrounds in the EU. We carried out a project to address the problem of inclusion of refugees in the non-formal education context in youth work and created synergies among the participating organizations for future cooperation for inclusive education methods. Thus, the project aimed to strengthen the competencies of youth workers and youth leaders in finding proper approaches for fostering the inclusion of refugees and others marginalized young people with migration backgrounds. More specifically the project's objectives were: - To strengthen the understanding of inclusion and its challenges for young refugees and young people with a migration background - To create strategies in the youth work context to improve the quality of youth services that are developed for refugees and young people with a migration background - To explore the role of youth work in inclusion strategies on educational services - To create and implement local activities on the inclusion of young refugees and young people with a migration background - To strengthen ties between people and organizations engaged in the field of youth work. - To enhance the visibility of Erasmus+ programs and to help youth leaders develop their competencies and be certified with a Youth Pass This Erasmus+ training course "Migrant Stories" looked at migration in general terms and deepens its context with the youth work relation and its effects on the inclusion of young refugees and young people with migration backgrounds. In addition to that, 89.9% of the participants of the training course (TC) said that they " ...understood the context of youth work in contributing to the inclusion of young refugees, and also they developed educational programs for and with young refugees and young people with migration backgrounds in their home countries. As a result of that, the participants were enabled to design, implement and evaluate their own education programs related to youth inclusion for young refugees and also young people with migration backgrounds in line with the EU Action plan on Integration and Inclusion 2021-2027 and Erasmus+2021-2027 objectives. We are happy to report that we achieved all we set the achieved in this Erasmus+ (E+)Training Course "TC". Based on responses analyzed pre, during, and after TC, 95% of the participants shared positive feedback. During the focus group, Georgian teams said during this TC they learn to create strategies in the youth work context to improve the quality of youth services to accommodate young Ukrainian refugees in their organization to promote social inclusion for youngsters we work with. The Turkish team leader said, "I am now confident to be able to implement youth seminar and debate on the inclusion of young Syrian and Ukrainian refugees..." Environmental awareness was not part of this project, however, participants were encouraged to reduce food waste & recycle materials which they did happily. All paper materials were made from recycled materials.
