Objectives

The project was born from the debate on multiculturalism, especially in Italy and in Europe, due to the increase in migratory phenomena from Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Although this involves positive aspects, such as: knowledge of new cultures and languages, positive contamination, integration, openness to new ideas and worlds; many outline the negative aspects, especially the problems they involve, such as: conflicts between groups, integration difficulties, conflicts for access to economic resources, racism, etc... The data released by the Jo Cox commission on hatred, intolerance, xenophobia and racism, established by the Chamber, say that 56% of Italians think that a neighborhood deteriorates when there are too many immigrants, 65% consider them a social burden, 40% they even distrust their own religious practices. Therefore, it is not surprising that 29% of the foreign population claims to have suffered some form of discrimination. The project developed through artistic and expressive workshops. We focused on the themes of multiculturalism and integration, so topical in an increasingly globalized world and made even more salient by the current economic and social situation that Italy is still experiencing, especially Basilicata. Thanks to the initiative, the students had the opportunity to face a path of self-awareness, and of the other as different from themselves, with the aim of bringing to light reflections on the value of diversity as a resource within a group and have favored integration. Art has therefore become a means of expressing oneself, getting to know each other, overcoming preconceptions and has given the way to get closer to each other. The project promoted cultural diversity as we intended to achieve the following objectives: - create an intercultural dialogue between young people of different nationalities; - create respect for different cultures; - combat racism and xenophobia; - make young people aware of the importance of intercultural dialogue; - create inclusion of migrants, asylum seekers and disadvantaged people.
