Young people aged 16-24 spend at least 2 hours daily using social media (http://bit.ly/2WKz1Od). According to Eurostat, more than 90% of youth use internet on daily basis (http://bit.ly/2QJWzxq). What is the first thing 1/2 of teenagers do when they wake up in morning? Check Facebook (http://bit.ly/2Z8qbYa). What does these statistics suggest? Young people are becoming addicted to internet and social media. Range of problematic behavior observed among internet users has in recent years become so complex scientists even coined new term for it – ‘Problematic Use of the Internet’ (PIU) which includes addictive social networking. Severity of problem triggered recent establishment of European PUI Research Network which main aim is identifying and understanding problems associated with internet use (http://bit.ly/318S8AV). Due to addictive usage of social media youth lack soft skills to interact in real life which on longer run results in social exclusion or even struggling to integrate in work environment. Young people are becoming delusional about what is real thanks to stuff they see online – influencers with their perfect life and looks. They seek to them, try to imitate their life, pretend to be better, happier, richer, skinner, etc. and become really upset if they do not meet these standards, or even worse – are rejected or excluded because of that among their peers. Therefore, our project had 3 objectives in relation to above mention problems which were successfully achieved: O1. Young participants increased soft skills such as communication, critical thinking and creativity from 5 countries for this project. O2. Young participants learnt about alternatives, resources-wise not demanding options, active ways how to spend their leisure time alone and in groups outside social media. O3. Young participants familiarized with Digital Minimalism methodology and shared their ideas about ways to use technologies and social media for personal and professional benefit instead of pointless scrolling. Achieving objectives lead to realization of project goal which was to change approach of using social media and reduce time spent on it among young participants of our project from Lithuania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Portugal by increasing their competences to interact in real life, introducing new methods how to use social media and technologies (Digital Minimalism) and alternatives to spend their leisure time.
