Objectives

Young people find out about what's happening in the world and/or in their immediate environment every day through a variety of media channels and tools, and they hear about everything that's changing, from the economy to entertainment. They are not only interested in what the people around them are doing, how they are feeling, but also what they are interested in, etc. The various media open all the possibilities for them not only to get acquainted with information, but also to create it themselves. They follow the information and analyse the situation, the feelings and the thoughts that the social network environment causes them. It is important for young people to know how to make better use of the positive aspects of the media while protecting themselves from problems or being less influenced by the same media. Digital media forces them to focus not only on technical skills, but also on the broader social, ethical, legal, and economic aspects of using digital tools. During the implementation of the project activities, the project participants learned to read media information, rely on real facts, and look at and accept information critically. The young people discussed various topics, such as that the media has the potential to be a tool of manipulation, disinformation, and propaganda. It was beneficial for the project participants to gain such experience in order to be able to select the information that provided them with the necessary knowledge. During the activities, project participants learned to recognize prejudice and intrigue and to distinguish misleading information. In working groups and discussions, the young people explored how media news can influence public opinion. In practical sessions, they learned how to evaluate news based on their experiences, skills, beliefs, and values. The aim of the project was to contribute to the development of young people's media literacy through non-formal education and to promote cultural dialog, self-expression, knowledge and tolerance among young people. We pursued the main goal of the project by implementing the following tasks: - developing young people's ability to use new media; - developing young people's ability to think, choose and orient themselves critically; - helping young people acquire knowledge about cultural awareness, developing skills and attitudes necessary to understand, accept, respect and participate in cultural values created by different nations; - creating friendships between young people from different social and cultural backgrounds. Young people who came from the countryside or small towns and participated in the youth exchange had the opportunity to take part in new activities, make friends from other countries, and at the same time take responsibility for results and achievements and broaden their horizons. It was very important for young people to communicate, cooperate, learn about each other and new cultures, spend their free time in a meaningful way and find solutions to reduce the impact of smart technologies on their free time.
