Objectives

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT With the YOUTHCRACY project, we enabled a cross-border, intercultural youth exchange and enabled all participants to demonstrate the characteristics and processes of democracy in a simulation environment. The title YOUTHCRACY was a play on the term "democracy", whereby the people (demos) were replaced by the youth (YOUTH), in this case our project participants. Our goal was to encourage young people, our participants, to actively participate in public life at local, national and European level even after the project. In particular, we wanted to motivate them to take part in elections (local, national and European), to inform themselves before the voting, to vote responsibly and also to take part in public life – not only during the election periods. We wanted to motivate them to be responsible young European citizens. The objectives of the simulation and the workshops were that the participants received different information and were able to gain experience: - Have acquired theoretical knowledge (about terms likes referendum, constitution, democracy, majorities) - Have practiced practical skills (how to vote, how to prepare a campaign, how to work with media, how to present and speak) - Having learned and experienced new values (motivation for active participation, democratic values and responsibility). Overall, we wanted to offer all young people involved new learning experiences and experimentation opportunities that enabled them to become civically active after the project, ideally a part of our cross-border, European youth projects.
