Social exclusion is a complex phenomenon that sabotages the fundamental values and cohesion of the EU. Numerous reports and studies highlight the growing trend of social exclusion, particularly after pandemia. The number of young people affected is hard to determine, but is clear there is a growing tendency. Using as reference the Proposal for Joint Employment Report from the Commission and the Council, accompanying the Communication from the Commission on the Annual Sustainable Growth Strategy 2020, it becomes clear that issues like the failure of educational systems causing education inequalities, the risk of poverty, the lack of preparation for active citizenship and participation that generate income inequality, among others are key-elements that lead to social exclusion in EU. This report was published in December 2019, before anyone knew what challenges were yet to come. The complexity and its multiple origins make it quite difficult to prevent yet pre-pandemic statistics show that 80% of young Europeans aged 16 to 29 attend at least one cultural activity per year, mainly live shows and despite the current health restrictions, the figures suggest that this trend will continue. Faced with this observation, our project had as key objectives: - To enable participating youth workers to explore and understand the causes and dynamics leading young people to social exclusion: the political, religious, social and personal context, the need for opportunities for inclusion, development and income of young people especially in marginalized areas. - Reflect in behaviour changes leading for increased awareness of social exclusion of young people - To present participating youth and social workers with a concrete tool for the prevention of social exclusion of young people: theatre as a means of collective and personal expression in different forms (puppet theatre, theatre of the oppressed, improv theatre, etc.) - To provide participants with practical knowledge on the preparation, implementation and evaluation of theatre activities on the subject of social exclusion with young people. - To create a performance on the theme based on the experience of the participants and which serves them both as a practical learning of theatre activities but also as a reference for addressing the theme of exclusion with their young people. - To create contacts between the participants and the partners in order to exchange practices on the theme of our project and to develop common strategies between the different partners. - To create a shared folder of resources usable on the theme of our project. - To develop the European and multicultural awareness of the participants. In all, this project aimed to assure that youth workers are able to generate mentally stronger youth, prepared to critically understand their environment and to engage in social dialogue with different individuals, regardless of their context, in order to improve their inclusion perspectives in the fast changing society.
