Objectives

Throughout the years of working with young people, we were able to identify some issues and needs. One of them is the issue of entrepreneurship. Young people in our country are not what you would say entrepreneurial. Instead, they tend to complain about the conditions in their surrounding social, political and natural environment, but rarely use the opportunities given to them either by the state or the NGO sector through international funding. They are scared and somewhat cautious about taking risks, and when it comes to taking responsibility for their choices, they are unwilling to do so. However, recently there has been an increased interest in programmes for young people’s development like Erasmus+ and similar ones, which is a positive change when it comes to leadership. There is still much to be done in terms of raising awareness and encouraging youngsters, as well as providing them with opportunities for self-development. The lack of educational support oftentimes extinguishes their work prematurely when they could bring new ideas and visions to their communities, improve their skills and become great leaders. This is the general situation in remote rural areas and in disadvantaged communities, many of whom persist there, also including minority groups, migration ghettos, etc. The experience which all the partners in this consortium have in working with young people shows that Erasmus+ and similar programmes contribute greatly to the overall development of young people who face various obstacles: educational, geographical, social, economic, etc. Mobility of such youth and youth workers fosters the development of skills that serve as means for combating poverty and social exclusion. Non-formal education provides a specific learning environment for different types of learners who may not otherwise thrive in the formal setting. It provides them with practical tools and skills while at the same time motivating and inspiring them to surmount the difficulties which affect their life negatively. “Step Forward” provided training for a very diverse group of young people among which were those from rural and border areas, including youngsters with fewer opportunities. The training aimed at engaging the young people to become more actively involved in local societal organizations and to learn to develop their own ideas into projects to kick off and sustain the development of their communities, their countries and the entirety of Europe. With that we have contributed to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: - Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all, - Achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls, - Reducing inequality within and among countries, - Promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels, etc.
