Objectives

Our project Leading Sustainable Growth addresses the concerns raised in JCI Malta's our strategic plan 2019 – 2023, in which it is indicated that it wants to provide a platform where young people can develop into leaders and be agents of positive change. This aim is shared by all the partner organizations involved in this project. JCI organizations aspire to provide their members with the opportunity to develop leadership skills and social responsibility for the advancement of the individual and the community in general. Together with our partners, we have been long working on creating projects and activities that contribute towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have come to realize that in order to do this effectively our members need to take the lead. The different JCI chapters need to have young people equipped with skills, knowledge, and tools so that they can fulfill their aims of developing leaders that are agents of positive change. Through a needs-analysis carried out by all the partner organizations, it has been highlighted that leadership is not taught to youth leaders in a formal capacity, time is spent by the young people developing activities but not developing their leadership skills and investing in their own self-development and youth leaders are unaware of the leadership skills required to work with youth and their importance in bringing forward the objectives listed down in the SDGs. For this reason, we have come up with 3 objectives that we want to achieve through our the project 'Leading Sustainable Growth' and that will target the specific issues and needs identified: 1. Increase the participants’ knowledge of leadership; they will be able to define it, identify its inner and outer components, recognize the qualities of a good leader, and understand how to unleash their own leadership potential, 2. Be actively involved in this project and its experiential learning methods, the participants will develop the hard and soft leadership skills needed to lead themselves and the youth they work with inline also with the SDGs, 3. The participants will understand the importance of leadership for their personal and professional development as a youth leader, and will increase their awareness of the attitudes they should uphold to be an effective leader. By addressing these objectives, we believe that this project will give our members, especially those that are in their early years within JCI, added skills and knowledge on how to be effective leaders. It will help them to develop both their inner and out leadership skills as well as using these leadership traits to carry out projects within their community related to the SDGs.
