Objectives

Music, culture and art are powerful tools that are effective against radicalization: The 2015 Paris Declaration and the latest EU Youth Strategy share an idea about youth participation and intercultural dialogue and this project is based on the following foundations: The rationale for this project is that we invite young Western and Eastern European and non-European participants to become mediators of change through a two-week workshop to jointly secure a better future Europe: Owing to the international collaborative project between Eastern and Western Europe, the project ''Craft for Human Rights' will artistically be attached with human rights through the youth from programme countries and refugees’ interpretations of three articles of human rights. Objectives: -To achieve means of integration and social inclusion through the arts as an interpretative tool to implement young people with fewer opportunities into society. -To push a wider sense of express of critical thinking, media literacy, and sense of initiative through creatively interpreting 3 chosen articles from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. -To create a solid foundation for the participants to become innovative means of exchange of the participants at the end of a two-week workshop held in Turkey. -To gain active citizenship at the international level by establishing a professional and personal network in the form of interpersonal connections for future use before, during and after the workshops. Issues and needs of young participants addressed in the project: - Empowering young individuals with fewer opportunities: It is important that the young generation of Europe to be aware of and help them to cope with the challenges of the refugee situation today, so they can cope with it in the future. By helping young refugees with fewer opportunities gain agency in society through collaborating with youth from the programme countries the Netherlands, UK and Turkey, we will promote increased awareness and shared responsibility among the youth by reflecting upon our common values through human rights as the interpretive framework. -Language barriers and isolation: Cultural differences, isolation and lack of lingual skills mean that many young refugees have fewer opportunities to create new relations. By inserting arts as an alternative common language, we promote creative skills to overcome linguistic barriers and create a social network between youth from programme countries and refugees locally-based in Turkey. -Prevention of exclusion: We will work against exclusion through the positive and idea-generating experience of co-creating across cultural differences through performative and meditative art disciplines. This way we deal with the feeling of being different than in its most extreme way can lead to radicalisation through a shared common creative ground. Links to objectives of the Erasmus+ programme: -Inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities: In the two-week workshop, refugees are included together with youth from programme countries to ensure an intercultural meeting to create transnational network connections. -Prevent violent radicalisation of young people: The project encourages youth to test their artistic and analytical skills in unison through promoting transnational friendships and shared values through human rights as the creative framework. Through non-formal youth-to-youth teamwork, they will present a creative performance addressing the three specific human rights articles: No. 1: All Humans are Free and Equal, No. 13: Freedom of Movement and No. 19: Freedom of Speech. Combined with group discussions and daily reflection, it will promote artistic and analytical skills by using human rights as a framework to foster understanding between transnational youth
