The young Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and + (all other gender and sexuality identities) youth are a marginalized group who is daily exposed to hate speech, stereotypes, phobias (homophobia, transphobia, biphobia), bullying, hate crimes, violence, and harassment in their social environments(online&offline), even more during the ongoing pandemic and the isolation they have been exposed to. They struggle with social acceptance from themselves, their families, school, work, and society itself which refers to them as not normal. Many LGBT+ youngsters are living in the closet, out of fear of their own lives, and becoming uninterested to take an active part in society. Based on previous project experiences, non-formal learning and inclusive environments have a positive effect on their mental health and growth. LGBT+ youth by participating in such events build valuable social connections, find their feeling of belonging to a community, help each other overcome internal fears and stigma about their identity, and become empowered to get active in their communities back home to raise awareness and build bridges in the society they live in. The idea behind this project was to bring together LGBT+ and allies youth, in a shared safe space, where they could explore and experience different forms of activism, focusing on the form of community building. Participants were able to exchange on LGBT+ related issues of their choice, and topics that matter to them, understand the form of activism that fits them the best, and become inspired by themselves and their peers. The Objectives that were successfully achieved are: - To involve directly 35 young people, LGBTQIA+ and allies, youth with fewer opportunities in the APV and Youth Exchange, from 7 European countries and organizations working in their youth field with LGBT+ youth. - To increase the competencies (such as teamwork, leadership skills, organization and communication skills, creativity, sense of initiative, learning to learn, and more) and boost the self-confidence and growth of participants during all phases. - To exchange different types of activism (such as community building, visual activism, grassroots, street actions, digital, non-formal learning, and more) and increase participants in acquiring an active participatory attitude in their lives and in society. - To empower participants learning and their personal growth: self-awareness, self-acceptance, sense of belonging in a community. - To organize a collaborative local action with smaller street actions in the Netherlands during the YE and at least 7 local actions in each partner country during Follow-up. - To promote the Erasmus+ program and non-formal learning as a beneficial tool for activism and social change.
