As we realized, rural tourism by offering and keeping the natural and cultural heritage such as natural attractions, traditions, and customs is not only considered as a sustainable development activity, but also it is a reliable income source for the economy of many countries. Since rural tourism is one of the most competitive industries, it found necessary to find other possibilities and new approaches for competitive advantage on one hand, and on the other hand for the engagement of communities, especially those located in rural/peripheral and/or disadvantaged areas. Therefore, it was considered necessary to stimulate the development of skills and competences connected to entrepreneurial activities for the recovery of rural tourism potential and regional traditions, increasing living standards in line with identified needs and priorities of local communities. How to find and propose a new approach and innovation was the first question; the second one, was connected with the involvement of local communities in development of rural tourism social entrepreneurship skills, as well as addressing the issue of social entrepreneurship in rural tourism. The main theme of the project was to raise European awareness of the realities and possibilities for more inclusive societies towards people coming from disadvantaged areas, and providing youth workers with tools to work on it and giving them the space to share best practices in the field. The project, through its seminar, aimed at developing and sharing innovative models of youth work for facilitating the increase of sustainable tourism in rural areas, by fostering a community involvement and underlining methods and techniques to raise the level of awareness in islands belonging to European Union towards a more inclusive society. The specific objectives of the projects were achieved as followings: • We shared and exchanged best practices, tools, ideas and challenges among youth workers to promote active inclusion and engagement of communities; • Transferred new competences and tools for youth workers on the sustainable development of rural communities; • Exploited and capitalized tourism as development economic opportunity supporting the creation, the administration and the promotion of rural tourism initiative; • Created a dossier which contains a set of guidelines and tools for local heritage promotion and local rural tourism product development; • Fostered networking among islands and participation through of new partnership at different levels.
