Our partner organisations have observed first-hand changes in their country over the past few years; longer droughts and dry seasons, shorter but more intense rainy seasons, bleaching of coral reefs as well as stronger hurricanes. In a country that relies on agriculture and tourism, these effects can be devastating in a country with already high unemployment. Island nations produce less than 1 percent of the greenhouse gases attributed to climate change yet suffer disproportionately from the effects of climate change. These nations are also already experiencing up to four times the global average in sea level rises. This means that climate change is a global issue, in fact, the butterfly effect also can be seen in the Environment Scenario. First it started with the greenhouse emissions from our daily emissions which slowly started to diminish the ozone layer in turn causing many global catastrophes, also in “environmentally friendly countries”. Our vision was to start a societal transition towards a green economy and lifestyle. The main aim of the project is to head towards a change in the European population’s behavior and habits in order to reach an eco-friendly lifestyle. We think that the change is best to come from youth; thus, the youth exchange – “Youth Eco-Ambassador for a Green World” hosted in Sint Maarten.
