The project addressed global environmental issues, particularly focusing on waste production and excessive resource consumption. The specific objectives of the project included: The project broadened the awareness of today's youth about ecological issues, including excessive waste generation, inadequate environmental protection, the need for recycling, and environmental pollution. The goal extended the competences of the participants in the area of environmental issues, empowering them to bring positive changes to their surroundings. The primary objective prepared and organized a youth exchange in British Virgin Islands, involving 29 participants from three countries. The exchange aimed to provide a platform for participants to learn about and discuss environmental issues. Another objective was to involve 29 young people, along with volunteers from project management, to improve their competences related to project management, time management, organizational skills, and facilitation. The project created at least four environmental projects with the participation of 29 young people, with at least two of these projects implemented in collaboration with partner organizations in the local communities of the participants. The intention raised awareness and improve critical thinking among young people regarding environmental issues, sustainable development, and the concept of zero waste. The project contributed to the development of youth policy and encourage self-initiation, activism, and volunteerism among young people. The participants were expected to continue working on environmental issues even after the project concluded. The project aligned with the European Union 2020 strategies, focusing on non-formal ways to develop competences, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency, and promote renewable energy sources. It also aimed to support the United Nations 2030 agenda, particularly youth involvement in sustainable development issues. Through workshops, discussions, and collaborative project development, the participants were expected to learn the basics of creating project plans while connecting their knowledge about zero waste to this competence. The project connected young people from different countries through the Erasmus+ program, facilitating the exchange of ideas, opinions, and cultural experiences. The participants were encouraged to work together to develop ideas for a zero-waste lifestyle.
