Objectives

Racism has been an unsolved problem since 20th century and today we still try to overcome it. To be honest, we think that explicit racism is easy to fight. The challenge is to fight the interiorized, unconscious, “normal” racism that we have. We tried to create an awareness of having “micro-racism” and “implicit-racism” for our participants during our project. We made our participants to think how it’s inevitable to finish a sentence that starts with “I’m not racist but…” without being racist. Our participants contemplated on their daily sentences such as “He’s Greek but he’s OK.” or “She’s Polish but it’s not a problem for me.” or “Norwegians are so cold people.” or “Despite he’s from Turkey he’s not like the others.”. Such sentences seem positive but they have some racist points in deep. That’s why; our participants firstly criticized their own implicit racist feelings during the project. Such small steps are going to cause to bigger steps in future to create awareness and fight racism. Briefly, we’ll fight the racist that we have inside. Main concepts about racism those we tackled were: • Racism, micro-racism and implicit-racism, • Anti-Semitism, • Islamophobia, • Radicalism, • Intercultural learning, • Diversity and democracy pedagogy, • Cultural discrimination, • Having sensibility, • Reaction towards racist attitudes, • Practices for developing the sensibility of youth, • Protection and interfering to extreme-right politics.
