Objectives

Climate change and unsustainable lifestyle are serious challenges for our society. According to the United Nation’s “Special Report on Global Warming", we are going to exceed 1.5 degrees C warming between 2030 and 2050 if we continue on business as usual. On top of that, the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) report concludes that we are much closer to 2 degrees warming than we previously thought. It seems that the risk of 2 degrees C warming is much greater, particularly for threatened systems(e.g., coral reefs) and it poses serious social and economic challenges to our society The last couple of years have seen an incredible record-breaking in climate-induced natural hazards such as storms, fires, and heatwaves. We are all aware of the great fires that purged the Australian forests last year and about the fires going on in California as we speak. Considering the current climate crisis, each of us is responsible for making whatever we can to reduce our own carbon emission but also to try and influence the people around us. Last year the EU has adopted the EU Green New deal by adopting a very ambitious goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. We are happy to be part of the transition but at the same time, we have only 31 years to make massive carbon reductions. Nevertheless, the plans and actions to reduce emissions must ensure that nobody is left behind and instead offer a path for sustainable development. The primary aim of the project was to enhance youth and youth workers' skills and knowledge about climate change and develop project ideas and strategies that were then implemented during the Climate Summit that took place in October 2021 in Scotland. We created a network of climate educators that went back home to their communities equipped with skills and motivation to start and coordinate a team of youngsters interested in participating in the Climate Summit. The competencies and methods acquired during SUMMIT enabled our participants to be change agents in their communities by developing further partnerships and educational materials used during the 2nd mobility as well as in the Climate Summit. The project consisted of two mobilities, the first one being a TC during which the youth workers developed ideas and tools to use with the youngsters during the summit. The 2nd mobility was a YE during which the youth leaders and their youth teams got together and tested the tools and methodologies developed during the TC. TC "Lead the Climate Summit" Venue: SpejderHolmen Copenhagen(Denmark) Dates: 10-17 August 2021 The main goal of the project was to enhance youth worker's skills and knowledge about climate change and sustainable lifestyles and develop ideas and tools to use with the youngsters during the summit That ́s the reason why its objectives were: - Creating an environment that allowed the participants to develop and exchange ideas and knowledge about climate change and green initiatives. - Increased youth workers' understanding of the urgency posed by climate change and highlight that sustainability is impacting everything around us. - Design strategies and tools for involving youth in the promotion of the climate summit with a special focus on circular economy and sustainable lifestyle. - Equip the youth workers with the skills on social media for social campaigns that promote sustainability, green economy, and ethical living. - Fostering collaboration at the European level, within the Erasmus+ framework, between NGOs interested in participating in the Climate Summit The final output was the guidebook called "Climate Summit" which will include all the ideas and tools developed during the TC. YE "Be the Climate Summit" Venue: Vestheim Ungdomssenter, Hagnesvegen, Vestnes, Norway Dates: 10-17 October 2021 (7 activities days + 2 travel days). Objectives of the YE were: - To test and implement the methodologies developed during the TC with the youngsters - To educate the young teams regarding climate change, its impact and consequences - To stimulate participants in promoting climate action and encourage their peers to participate in the climate summit. - To enhance the participant's sense of active lifestyle and civic involvement. - To stimulate participants' sense of initiative and critical thinking. - To increase participant's digital and social media skills that will automatically result in bigger visibility on the job market. The final output of the YE was a massive social media campaign aimed at raising awareness about climate change with a focus on the climate summit. “SUMMIT” was based on specific objectives pursued by the Erasmus+ Programme in the field of youth by allowing youth to develop competencies; become aware of socially relevant topics; discover new cultures, habits, and lifestyles. Furthermore, it supported the EU Commission's priority "Committing to climate-neutrality by 2050" and the UN 2030 SDG agenda.
