Objectives

The main aim of the project "4 seasons of understanding" was to talk, exchange experiences and reflect on folk traditions related to the 4 seasons of the year from different countries and cultures, as well as to establish mutual understanding and understanding of a culture different from our own. We achieved this aim by organizing a youth exchange for young people from 4 European countries: Poland, Lithuania, North Macedonia and Hungary. The exchange was held in village Przywidz in August 2022, and through activities disseminating the results of this exchange. The specific objectives of the project were: - to promote traditions and folk customs among the youth participating in the exchange and among our local communities, - to provide space for reflection on specific traditional behaviours associated with spring, summer, autumn and winter (where they came from, why we cultivate them, what they mean), - to provide a safe place to exchange thoughts, experiences, and challenges of cultivating traditions in the current times, - to promote an open, tolerant attitude towards cultural and ethnic differences - to search for common features in the traditions and customs presented in the participating countries and analyzing the significance of these similarities - development of participants' key competencies (especially communication, teamwork, initiative and creativity) - to produce qualitative results, encouraging interest in the traditions of our countries, - to promote non-formal education and peer-to-peer learning. The need addressed by this project is that fewer and fewer young people are cultivating folk traditions. In an era of globalization, where differences between countries and cultures are blurred, taking care of traditions and customs is very important. This allows young people to understand where we come from and our roots. Through this, we can understand ourselves more - our behaviours, longings needs. It also allows us to understand what is different and unknown and to open up to others, which is very important in times of increasing radicalization of resentment. Trying to reflect on folklore culture and find common traits or origins helped the young people participating in the project understand that despite being different on the surface, we have a lot in common with people from other countries. Also, often during the activities in which young people participate in folk groups, there is no time to reflect and try to understand where the traditions that we find amusing from the perspective of the current times come from. Another important need that this project realized was the need for young people interested in the topic to come together to explore the topic of traditions and customs associated with different seasons. Young people from our organizations are fascinated by the diversity and want the opportunity to meet other young people who share their passions. Another need we noticed is that there is a lack of places where young people from different countries could discuss issues related to diversity and otherness in a safe and comfortable atmosphere without judgment. The youth exchange took place in the village of Przywidz, which is located in Kashubia. We wanted our meeting place to be Kashuby, as the traditional culture in this region of Poland is still alive and visible, and many people still cultivate it. Such an environment was conducive to producing valuable results and positively impacted the quality of our discussions and work during the exchange. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to discover and become better acquainted with the extraordinary Kashubian culture.
