Pinus Verde appeared in 1998 with a strong connection to the territory of the Pinhal Interior (Central Region). Since then it has taken the leadership of numerous sustainable development projects, which have been the anchor of local development in the municipality of Fundão and throughout the region. Basically, the Association is essentially a tool at the service of a community and a territory, assuming as transversal objectives the improvement of the quality of life of rural communities, as well as the promotion of multiple uses of the forest and the preservation of the environment and heritage. Approved at the UN Summit on September 25, 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development came into force in 2016. Comprising five thematic areas, the 5 P's - People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnerships - with 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) spread across these themes, it aims to eradicate poverty and achieve economic, social and environmental development on a global scale by 2030. Some of the goals for Portugal in 2030 are to reduce CO2 emissions by 30 to 40% compared to 2005; to increase the weight of renewable energy to 40% of final energy consumption; to have 100% of water bodies classified with "Good or Superior" quality; or to have only 2 days per year with "poor" or "bad" Air Quality Index (IQAR). By 2030, economic, environmental and social measures will be implemented, in the scope of sustainable tourism and cooperation, to make Portugal a more sustainable country, just like the other 169 countries that have taken the right path. Thus, through "Eco Opportunities" we intend to raise awareness about the needs we have to implement in order to achieve these goals. They are in line with the key concepts that we want to develop of circular economy and sustainable tourism and meet the needs not only European but worldwide in relation to these issues. In the area of environmental tourism and according to the Secretary of State for Tourism "Portugal still has much to do to ensure that it is one of the most sustainable destinations in the world. We have already been considered the most sustainable destination in Europe this year, but it has to be a continuous work, and there is a lot to do". Thus, the "Eco Opportunities" project streamlined by Pinus Verde in partnership with the entire network of partners had as its main objective to acquire knowledge and develop skills for the development of opportunities related to the concept of eco in the various possible areas of its development. With the development of this youth exchange, it was intended to raise awareness and train the participants on the importance of taking advantage of opportunities related to the environment, promoting entrepreneurship in rural areas with connection to nature and the primary sector, promoting ecotourism, promoting circular economy, etc. In this way, the project promoted in the participants the knowledge and skills for the development of business projects that can be used as development mechanisms in their context, promoting entrepreneurship in rural areas related to nature. During the course of the project, projects with an environmental connection and good practices developed by Pinus Verde and the project partners were also shared, important points for the development of this youth exchange. Thus, it was intended to also connect the objectives of the Erasmus + program with the priorities of the National Agency. Thus it was intended: . Enable young people to connect with, express their opinions and be heard by elected policy makers, public administrations, interest groups, civil society organizations or individuals active in political or social processes that affect their lives; . Strengthen critical thinking and media literacy among young people to strengthen democracy and fight manipulation, propaganda and misinformation; . To broaden and deepen political, civic and social participation of young people at local, regional, national, European or global level; . Strengthen the links between policies, research and practice and promote better knowledge about the situation of young people and policies in the youth field. The preparation of the whole project, the ways of transmitting knowledge and the activities developed were made possible through a direct dialogue and cooperation within the network of partners and with the participation of young people, as we see it as a necessity for them. Furthermore, we created a network of contacts between participants and organizations with the purpose of presenting and sharing good practices related to environmental sustainability that nowadays is one of the great topics to be discussed as we can verify nowadays with COVID 19 and the environmental effects of it for example, but that we believe is still premature to reflect through this example. One of our main objectives was to elaborate recommendations on the public policies that concern and influence the youth sector. The intention of this project was to strengthen the capacities of the organizations attending to this theme, as we believe that the needs that all organizations have in this area can be addressed.
