Objectives

Since the last two decades there has been an environmental concern in Portugal regarding the way we use plastics and a better implementation of environmental policies by authorities (government and municipalities) and also by the environmental sector, which nowadays has a large component of environmental awareness online but also through campaigns. Despite this we can also see large entities with an impact on society such as Quercus, Zero, Greenpeace Portugal and companies such as Nestlé having an environmental policy for the reduction of plastics in their daily lives. The younger generations, within these environmental activist groups, should have more importance because it is through environmental awareness among the younger age groups that we will achieve an effective change of the current world situation. In this way we think that the leaders of the European Union should take this opportunity to improve Europe and the policies related to this theme, where we highlight the Cohesion Policy that defined 11 thematic objectives to support growth for the period 2014-2020 and within this theme the objectives: 5. Promotion of risk management and prevention and adaptation to climate change and 6. Preservation and protection of the environment and promotion of resource efficiency. In this sense, The Plastic Planet project proposed something innovative, inspiring and different where we wanted young activists to have a future of hope, in the area of non-formal education, considered as an area of capacity building, skills, innovation and, for example, the field of environmental activism. With The Plastic Planet, we contributed positively with innovative work, a collective force in favour of Environmental Activism, using what we already implemented at local level but also learning from environmental organizations and project partners, this project being an opportunity to exchange methods and tools and also experiences between those involved. To this end, we placed emphasis on getting to know the European working bodies and decision-making process and the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda: Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related risks and natural disasters in all countries; Integrate climate change related measures into national policies, strategies and planning; Improve education, raise awareness and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning measures Implement the commitment made by developed countries in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change [UNFCCC] to jointly mobilize USD 100 billion per year from 2020 from a variety of sources to meet the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparent implementation; and operationalize the Green Climate Fund through its capitalization as soon as possible; Promote mechanisms for building capacity for effective climate change planning and management in least developed countries and small island developing states, and that have a special focus on women, youth, local and marginalized communities; Recognise that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is the main international, intergovernmental forum for negotiating the global response to climate change. Thus, participating in a 'reconstruction / construction' to change the European and global reality was a task and reality for all. Furthermore, we believe in the successful development of the project because, during our daily activities and in our ideals, we seek Develop activities that encourage the active participation of youth; Get to know and promote synergies with youth organizations that are starting to form part of our partner network, as well as others that share good practices and working methods that are similar or complementary to those developed in Youth for Europe; In the course of the project, in communion with the programme objectives and the priorities of the Erasmus+ National Agency, we aim to . Improve the level of key competences and skills of young people; . Promote improvements in the quality of youth work, namely through a reinforced cooperation between organizations; . To enhance the international dimension of youth activities and the role of youth workers and youth organizations; . To promote the recognition of skills gained and the tools available to achieve this; . To promote the complementarity of formal and non-formal education, vocational training, employment and entrepreneurship.
