Objectives

The aim of recycling is to ensure that the waste generated does not go to landfill, waste incineration plants or into the sea. Thus, it is aimed at making waste reusable. It is inevitable that the world population will increase consumption in direct proportion to the increase in population. This situation disturbs the balance of the world by increasing the pressure on natural resources and cannot keep up with the growing needs of societies. According to the studies of Willi Haas and his colleagues, 4 billion tons of waste are recycled in the world, but this figure is very low compared to the 41 million tons of production. According to the World Health Organization report, 1.7 million people get cancer from unhealthy environmental conditions every year; 12.6 million people die from diseases related to environmental pollution. According to data from the Department of Statistical Research, Italy's recycling rate increased during the years 2013 to 2017, the rate went from 37% to 43%. In Portugal the plastic recycling rate is 42.4% of total consumption, which is still significantly lower than in some other European countries. The recovery sensitivity of young people who will be part of the management and social life of the future plays an important role in reducing the rate of environmental pollution. Young people today do not have enough knowledge about waste and waste management, which are very important for the future of the world and are not aware of it. It is important to make young people aware of waste recovery and increase their motivation to work on solving this problem. First of all, young people informed about the negative consequences of environmental pollution should acquire the right skills of waste sorting and increase their contribution to recycling. We, as a group, decided to carry out this project with the aim of increasing the sensitivity of the project participants and making the local population aware and act with more awareness. With these ideas and data, we have adopted the ideal of leaving a more livable world for the future in order to reduce environmental pollution and support a quality life. We must leave this world, which is universally our common heritage in terms of international law, for a more livable future. In this context, the overall objective of our project was to increase youth awareness of recycling and promote zero waste awareness. The specific objectives were: 1) To inform young people about waste management 2) To increase the motivation and competence of young people in waste recycling 3) To provide the youth with the ability to sort waste correctly 4) To inform about the scope and results of environmental pollution 5) To raise awareness of product recycling in the local area.
