During the past years, there has been an increase in the number of Roma and African migrants, as well as Syrian migrants more recently in Portugal. Consequently and because of the different preconceptions there are about migrants, we thought a rural area could be a good option on where to have a study visit during the project. During a week of activities about Social Inclusion of migrants, our main goal was to show that no matter the different education, gender, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, language or culture, anything can be accomplished together. We used arts as a tool, since it is the best way to communicate with each other. Our idea was to connect youngsters from different parts of Europe with a local community and show that no matter the different backgrounds we can create great things together. Our main objectives were the following: - To promote social inclusion of migrant communities; - To promote equal opportunities; - To promote equity; - To prevent any discrimination based on education, gender, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, language, culture, disability, age or sexual orientation; - To enhance young people’s active citizenship; - To support individuals by strengthening their skills and capabilities. Our project was connected to the Erasmus+ Programme and this specific key action because it was an effective instrument to promote the inclusion of people with disadvantaged backgrounds, including newly arrived migrants, as well as to enhance young people’s active citizenship.
