Objectives

Nowadays, more attention is being given to emotional intelligence and its significance in leading a fulfilling and successful life. Numerous studies have demonstrated that individuals with higher emotional intelligence tend to experience less depression, enjoy better overall health, and establish stronger connections with others. However, many young people, particularly during adolescence, face difficulties in understanding and regulating their own emotions, accurately interpreting the messages of others, and coping with various stressful situations. These challenges often lead to personality issues, depression, poor social integration, and lower academic performance. The primary objective of the project was to enhance emotional intelligence among young individuals within the communities where partner organizations are actively engaged. The idea of addressing emotional intelligence among young people had been a longstanding concern for the consortium. However, given the challenging times brought about by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the partners once again raised the issue of the need to acquire essential skills to navigate a changing world. The experiences of isolation, unemployment, and fear for the health of loved ones have presented numerous challenges for citizens. For young people, these difficulties can be particularly overwhelming as they may feel powerless and uncertain about how they can contribute to improving the situation. They are often bombarded with information and struggle to discern the truth. Within the partnership, a questionnaire was created to explore the challenges that young people face during these times. The questionnaire was distributed to previous projects' Facebook groups affiliated with the consortium. A total of 127 young people completed the questionnaire. The most significant concerns raised by the respondents included the uncertainty of the situation, the duration of the isolation measures, and changes in their educational paths. Commonly mentioned emotions among the respondents were fear, anxiety, disappointment about unfulfilled future plans, and a sense of helplessness. The target group for this project consisted of youths aged between 17-27 years old, a crucial stage in their development when they are learning to create and sustain relationships and build their confidence. The identified needs of young people within the partner communities included understanding and managing their own emotions through discussions and examples, coping with and managing emotions in stressful situations through simulations, building confidence by taking initiative, increasing adaptability in multicultural contexts, and improving communication skills through real-life practice. The partners to initiated a Youth Exchange project that utilized non-formal methods, including games, discussions, theatre, and simulations, to develop the emotional intelligence of youths. By creating a safe environment, the project provided a platform for 40 youths aged 17-27 from Romania, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia to share ideas, opinions, experiences, and emotions, thereby enhancing their emotional intelligence. The project aimed to contribute to their general well-being and professional lives. The following objectives were achieved by the end of the project: O1. Facilitated an international non-formal context from October 31 to November 9, 2022, in which 40 young people from Romania, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia will explored and reflected on how to cope with and manage their emotions in relation to their actions, the actions of others, and societal events. O2. Raised awareness among young people in the four partner communities about the tools they can use to cope with societal and peer pressure, thereby improving their well-being and mental health. O3. Equipped the partner organizations with non-formal methods and tools to enhance their operational capacities in supporting young people in stressful situations. This project contributed to the following: - The Erasmus+ guide by improving the level of key competences and skills, particularly in the youth field, by promoting self-empowerment and self-esteem. - The ET 2020 framework by contributing to the achievement of Youth Goal no. 5, which focuses on improving the health and well-being of young people. - The EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027 by empowering young people to be achitects of their own lives, build resilience and equip them with life skills to adapt in a changing world; contributing to a better social inclusion by involving young people with fewer opportunities. - The 2020 NA call for proposals: o Horizontal Priority: promote inclusion, diversity, equality, gender balance and non-discrimination in education by involving youths from disadvantaged environments. o Specific Priority: by promoting a stronger active participation of young people in civic life.
